The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care.
What the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) Will Do:
- Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to stated goals.
- Utilizes a variety of modalities as appropriate to enhance patient progress. Instructs patients in varying programs to enhance performance toward occupational therapy goals.
- Communicates with and educates patients and their families regarding plan of care, home equipment recommendations, considerations for additional rehab, discharge planning, home exercise program, self-administered treatments, and family assistance.
- Graduate from an occupational therapy assisting program accredited by ACOTE.
- Required:
Associate’s Degree. - State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Assistant License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date.
- American Heart Association BLS or equivalent.
