Job Purpose/Summary

The Staff Accountant manages day-to-day accounts payable, billing, cash reconciliation, and accounting setup. The role prepares accurate entries and supporting records for Assistant Controller review, supports financial close and special projects, and works independently with project teams in a remote environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Accounts payable
• Collect and process vendor invoices; submit vendors for payment approval in line with payment terms and process approved payments.
• Set up and maintain vendors and subcontractors, including records needed for new organization setup.
• Billing, receivables, and revenue
• Coordinate with project management to create and process customer invoices and set up new customer profiles.
• Record customer payments and prepare revenue recognition entries with supporting documentation for Assistant Controller review and posting.
• Accounting and operations
• Perform daily and monthly bank and cash reconciliations and support general ledger and project reconciliations.
• Support credit card and expense report reconciliations and alternate project setup as assigned.
• Set up new organizations and role players; support new employee setup and train employees on timecards and expense reports.
• Support financial statement preparation, cash flow and budget projections, and special projects, including 1099 preparation and audit support, as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and at least two years of finance or accounting experience.
• Familiarity with GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR); U.S. government contracting experience is highly important.
• Experience with Unanet is highly preferred; experience with Wide Area Workflow (WAWF) is preferred;  experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and ability to learn, improve, and implement accounting processes.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal direct supervision.

Working conditions

• Employees may be called upon to participate in in-person meetings, trainings, or company functions at Knowmadics offices or other designated locations. Travel in support of business operations may also be required, and employees are expected to comply with these obligations as part of their position.
• Candidate should live within driving distance of one of the following areas:
  Wichita, KS;
  Lawton, OK; or Round Rock, TX.
• Some weekend work may be required based on project deadlines or operational needs.

Physical requirements

May include sitting or standing for extended periods, working with computers and technical equipment, and occasionally lifting or moving materials or tools.
