Health Educator I or II – Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (340 Oklahoma State Department of Health)

Location: Muskogee CHD – 530 S. 34 St
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am‑5pm
Full time

Salary: up to $50,000 for Level I, up to $54,000 for Level II (based on education and experience)

Position Description

The Health Educator is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health education/promotion programs. This specialist level role includes advanced responsibilities such as leading specific projects, programs or activities.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Conduct need assessments at the individual, organizational, and community levels.
  • Conduct programmatic and strategic planning with stakeholders regarding health issues and infrastructure development.
  • Implement and/or monitor evidence‑based health education curricula and health promotion programs with an emphasis on program completeness, fidelity, and evaluation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary changes.
  • Assist in development of grant related documents and proposals.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies, communities, or organizations for program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Prepare and deliver public presentations for selected audiences.
  • Presence in the office is an essential function of the job.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
  • Demonstrate knowledge and support of mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, participating and assisting peers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Level I: Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Community Health, School Health Education, Health Studies, Nutrition, Health Behavior, Public Health, Education (or related fields).
  • Level II: Same bachelor’s degree as above plus one year of experience in public health education or community development.

Ability to speak to the public; to organize communities, establish and facilitate coalitions, and direct groups; to prepare educational materials;

to use personal computers and applicable software; and to demonstrate cultural competence with diverse populations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Office setting with climate control, moderate noise. Tasks include talking, standing, walking, reaching, carrying light items, driving. Requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computers and phones. Travel may be required, including state overnight and weekend travel. Presence at the office is essential.
