Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director, a Summer Camp Counselor for the YMCA of Coastal Carolina provides direction and supervision of all group activities while implementing best practices. Counselors provide a fun, engaging, and quality experience to children, with intentional focus on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the upmost of importance.

- Minimum age is 16 years old.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred.
- Superb leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work all weeks and attend all trainings with limited vacation or days off.
- Makes sound judgements, and transfers learning from one situation to another.
- Embraces new approaches and discover ideas to create a better member experience.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings completed prior to first day of camp.
- Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor.
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities in a variety of indoor and/or outdoor settings.
- Run, jump, lift, carry, push, as well as any other physical actions that are needed.
- Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness.
- Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across long distances.
- Maintain a safe and clean facility.
- Handle conflict resolution with ease and in a positive manner.
