Job SummaryPosition provides assistance to teachers in the daily instruction and care of eligible students with disabilities. As a paraprofessional, the employee works under the direction of the teacher to monitor and address the instructional, personal, and behavioral needs of students. The overall performance is evaluated by the principal, and employees may be reassigned as needed to meet changing student needs.
Responsibilities- Assist with implementation of the students’ Individualized Education Programs under the direction of the classroom teacher(s) and/or service provider(s).
- Provide individual or small‑group instruction, including teaching, re‑teaching, reviewing lessons, asking questions, prompting students, and guiding independent work.
- Attend to personal needs of students with disabilities, such as hygiene, lifting, feeding, toileting, and monitoring support equipment (walkers, wheelchairs).
- Facilitate the use of assistive technology.
- Escort and supervise students during daily arrival, transitions between classes, playground, cafeteria, and off‑site learning activities.
- Collect, chart, and report student performance data to teachers.
- Perform general clerical tasks for the assigned classroom, including maintaining student records.
- Distribute, collect, and report instructional materials.
- Assist with behavioral management programs and implement behavior intervention plans.
- Participate in designated staff development, including training required for safe restraint and ABA therapy.
- Maintain bulletin boards and classroom supply inventories.
- Collaborate as an educational team member to support the needs of all students with disabilities.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
Minimum Qualifications- Candiate must meet the requirements for a Paraprofessional: one of the following - 60 college credit hours from an accredited college, an Associate degree, or a passing score on the Work Keys or Para Pro exam.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Communicating effectively with students and staff.
- Applying common sense in following written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
- Performing basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
- Calculating rates, ratios, and percentages; interpreting bar graphs.
- Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
- Sufficiently mobile to ensure student safety.
- Visual acuity: good close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for phone use and data entry.
- Ability to read printed material with or without vision aids.
- Normal hearing and speech recognition.
- Speak in audible tones for clear communication.
The position is normally performed in a school/classroom environment with occasional community settings and study trips. The required work hours are 7½ hours with no unencumbered lunch.
Pay and Employment InformationPay Grade: 103‑104.
Employment Type:
Part‑time. Seniority Level: Entry level. Experience and responsibilities may be adjusted as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
