Description SummaryThe Subsea Cable engineer will be responsible for managing the daily operations of power feed equipment and all other aspects of the Subsea systems for a growing, multi‑tenant data center and international cable landing station. As the Jr Subsea Engineer, you will be responsible for continued service assurance, modification to or upgrade of submarine cable and ancillary equipment (i.e. SLTE, DWDM equipment, etc.).
This shall include monitoring the performance and condition of the submarine cable and ancillary equipment, testing, fault finding, card/board/unit replacements or additions, measurement, adjustment, configuration, powering, corrective action, and all other tasks reasonably required of CLS (Cable landing station) staff to ensure maximum availability of the submarine cable and ancillary equipment. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of firsthand management, knowledge, and experience gained working in other cable landing stations.
He or she should be proficient with critical electrical and networking practices in a 24x7 data center environment.
- Engineer shall understand and shall comply with optical and power safety procedures and requirements outlined in relevant suppliers’ operations and maintenance manuals
- Engineer shall be fully engaged and in compliance with the Subsea operations safety protocols
- Oversite of vendors to ensure that all work is addressed according to best practice and established DC Blox procedures and cable landing station procedures
- Establish and oversee preventative maintenance MOPs, schedules, vendor relationships, etc.
- Work with and for the Data Center Site Manager and facility manager to facilitate customer tours, installs, etc. to ensure the highest customer satisfaction
- Work within established DC Blox policies including change control and ticketing systems
- Maintain a constant state of readiness to meet CLS and PFE SLAs per contracts
- Maintain security posture for all CLS, customer, and PFE needs
- Equipment/material receiving, shipping, asset management, and RMA processing
- Engineer shall comply with all reporting needs based on DC Blox requirements and those required by PFE clients including but not limited to details of all the faults experienced, trouble resolution time, compliance with agreed SLAs, RMA, and spare inventory status as well as forward‑looking statements regarding any planned works.
- Complete subsea cable front haul route inspections from CLS to Beach manhole based on provided requirements and follow up with front haul operations and maintenance tasks required based on inspections and formed maintenance schedules
- Understand and keep up with all needed tools and spare parts inventory based on the contract negotiated with the client.
- Understand, report, and schedule corrections for all unintended issues based on contracts with the subsea cable provider
- Installation and test of Optical Transport Network circuits on the submarine and terrestrial paths
- Ability to work with off‑site NOC to respond to any alerts and meet SLAs required by client contracts
- Performs physical data center inspections and log reporting
