Ship Keeper III – Mystic Seaport Museum

Responsibilities- Participate in the execution of daily, seasonal, and long‑term maintenance of museum watercraft.
- Carry out year‑round work related to vessel and waterfront infrastructure (floats, ladders, moorings, etc.) in service of other museum departments.
- Perform maintenance tasks related to watercraft preservation.
- Collaborate with others on a wide variety of maintenance tasks for museum watercraft.
- Support other museum areas and represent Mystic Seaport Museum professionally at all times.
- Continue to learn and grow in proficiency and skill within the areas of responsibility.
- Perform other tasks as required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in some aspect of boat or ship operation or maintenance.
- Demonstrated aptitude within the above responsibilities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends on a rotational basis, and with non‑professional shipyard volunteers.
- Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks and projects.
- High degree of flexibility regarding scheduling of projects, tasks, and responsibilities.
- Experience with bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged physical activity, and exposure to all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- State Safe Boating Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Willingness to develop skills in traditional marine coating application.
- Ability to learn application of traditional and modern marine coating.
- Willingness and ability to learn operating small and medium watercraft.
- Respect for environmental, health, and safety responsibilities regarding materials required for this work.
- Interest in interacting, communicating with, and leading museum visitors and others in programs related to vessel maintenance and maritime preservation.
- Interest in furthering the broader goals of Mystic Seaport Museum.
