General Engineering Tech I or II (Maintenance Contract Inspector)
Apply to join Texas Department of Transportation as a General Engineering Tech I or II (Maintenance Contract Inspector).
Responsibilities- Perform and coordinate advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and complex maintenance contract inspection.
- Operate light and heavy equipment; perform preventive maintenance and repairs; perform roadway maintenance.
- Inspect barricades, construction methods, and contract work to ensure compliance with safety, laws, regulations, and contract specifications.
- Inspect traffic control devices and their placement for compliance with specifications and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Oversee complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts.
- Consult with contractors on work progress and maintenance problems; review equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- General Engineering Tech I: 4 years of transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related experience (full‑time or prorated part‑time).
- General Engineering Tech II: 6 years of related experience (full‑time or prorated part‑time).
- Related college education or relevant technical training may substitute experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
- Valid driver’s license; must drive a state vehicle.
- Commercial Class A driver’s license with an N endorsement or CDL A license within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
