Gordon Timber, established in 1862 and based in Nairn, Scotland, is a leading supplier of high-quality softwood timber to the UK market. With over 130 years of leadership by the Gordon family, the company is one of the top saw milling businesses in the UK. Employing approximately 90 people, Gordon Timber was the first UK sawmill to achieve Investors in People status in 1995, maintaining this recognition to date.

The company specializes in converting locally sourced roundwood into premium sawn timber products for fencing, construction, and packaging markets.

Main purpose of the role
  • Support the creation of a Reliability centered maintenance program.
  • Refine and reset the CMMS system to ensure it matches business needs.
  • To solve problems in a logical manner and strive towards continuous improvement across site.
  • Take technical responsibility for equipment performance and train team members in a variety of technical tasks, this will include Engineering and Operations staff.
  • To provide support to team members in a proactive manner.
  • To identify and implement continuous improvement activities across the site to increase equipment efficiency and availability.
  • To reduce downtime through use of best-in-class practices and techniques.
  • Work closely with production to match the equipment availability with our market demand.

Emaint CMMS:
Review current status and remove any historic and legacy problems from within the system. Ensure future status reflects that of the maintenance required in the mill.

Set up Pm review process to remove non value add PMs or PM tasks from current system.

Create Planning system to plan and execute maintenance in line with current working hours.

Provide monthly metrics including graphical data from the CMMS system.

Investigate and propose a CBM system ideally aligned with Emaint to provide live diagnostics to aid maintenance approach.

Reliability Program

Support the creation of a manufacturing reliability program using a structured, multi-step approach focusing on assessment, strategic planning, technology implementation, and team engagement to minimize downtime and optimize equipment life. Core actions include prioritizing assets based on criticality, implementing preventive/predictive maintenance, training personnel, and continuously improving through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).

Continuous Improvement

Drive the site continuous improvement culture regularly evaluating and improving equipment and maintenance processes and procedures.

Attend the daily, weekly and monthly OEE forums providing feedback on the performance and potential improvements in key areas.

Training and mentoring

Providing training and support to all staff while being accountable for your own learning. Ensure that technical information and knowledge is taught as well as documented in the shape of Engineering technical guidance documentation and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

Site Support

When required provide reactive support to any major or emerging Breakdown issues which may result in significant production losses.

Support any upcoming or active projects.

Compliance

Ensuring all equipment and procedures comply with health and safety regulations.

Documentation

Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities within the Emaint CMMS including any repairs, replacements, and inspections.

Ensure your awareness and implementation of and compliance with the Health & Safety and Human Resource Policies and Procedures, with any doubts being raised with your Direct Line Manager.

Ensure that the area in which you are working is safe for yourself and others who may be working nearby and that you comply with your responsibilities in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policy.

Report any accidents/near misses immediately to the Health and Safety Advisor or your Direct Line Manager.
