Position Summary

  • The supervisor will have extensive knowledge of underground utility construction operations including equipment types, operating and laboring skills, and safety operations/requirements, and so forth.
  • This role will be the direct supervision of the company's in‑house field construction crews and their subcontractors. This role will be overseeing underground fiber and utility installation projects of various sizes and scopes of work. Knowledge of the telecom industry, a strong work ethic, and making safety a top priority are key success factors in this role.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee the construction of telecom projects being performed by in‑house field crews and subcontractors. Participate in the conceptual development of construction projects and oversee its organization, scheduling, inventory and materials, and implementation. This position formulates company policies and ensures adherence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Management and Subcontractors to plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with utility construction projects.
  • Oversee project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within the boundaries of company policy and contract specifications. Confer with Management and Subcontractors to discuss such matters as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Initiate and maintain connections with owners and other contacts, such as engineers, municipalities, vendors, and internal team members to facilitate project activities.
  • Monitor and control projects through administrative direction to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Represent company in project meetings, safety meetings, and attend strategy meetings.
  • May request supplies and materials to complete project.
  • Formulate reports concerning such areas as work progress, costs, budgets, financial estimates, and scheduling and report to upper management.
  • Ensure compliance with building and safety codes, safety inspections, city guidelines, and local and state regulations.
  • Be a subject matter expert in quality control to ensure projects are performed in adherence to project plans and drive change, improvements, and escalated corrections when issues are found.

Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent.
  • 2‑3+ years’ experience in underground utility construction.
  • 1‑2+ years’ supervising experience.
  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • Valid Driver License required – Class A CDL Preferred.
  • Background investigation and Pre‑Employment Drug Screen required.
Working Conditions / Environment

This position operates in an office and field environment. Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and driving. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, will be required to wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.
