Position: NRC - KIDS IN ACTION COUNSELOR

Position Summary

Kids in Action Counselor – Nampa Recreation Center The principal function of this role is to assist program participants with day camp activities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment. The position is supervised by an Education & Programs Supervisor and uses independent judgment to support recreation programs.

Essential Functions
  • Provides assistance to recreation class and program leaders in implementing a variety of youth programs for patrons of the Nampa Recreation Center and associated locations on a part‑time basis.
  • Assists in planning group and individual promotional activities and programs to encourage program and/or class participation.
  • Provides individual or group instruction regarding the program or class to which assigned, including independent instruction to program patrons under direction of the program leader.
  • Works closely with members of various age groups of young children.
  • Provides security for each child enrolled in the Kids‑in‑Action Program.
  • Works under direction of Kids‑in‑Action Supervisor and Coordinator to ensure that those enrolled in the program or class meet the goals of the activity safely and with an ongoing interest, including supervising and interacting with children in sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and other recreational activities.
  • Assists in coordinating response to any emergency regarding program or other class or facility users; requests the call‑out of medical and other personnel as required; provides information for necessary accident reports.
  • Receives and provides clear, constructive feedback regarding work performance (to/from individuals or groups) and provides clarification as necessary.
  • Provides standard information to program or class patrons regarding departmental procedures and requirements and other activities to enhance their use of City recreation activities and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate records and files related to the class or program to which assigned; maintains an inventory of handouts, forms and reports.
  • Uses standard office equipment and performs standard office support duties in the course of the work.
  • Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio‑visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
  • May need to drive kids to and from Nampa Schools before school.
Additional Functions
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • Responds to citizen's questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
  • Is punctual and timely in meeting requirements of performance, including attendance standards and work deadlines.
  • Communicates information and states concerns in a clear and professional manner.
  • Respects the opinion of others and demonstrates a reasonable relationship with employees, supervisors and others.
  • Accepts and performs in a timely and effective manner changes in work assignments and/or how work is performed.
Required Education, Experience, & License/Certifications
  • Current high school student or High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 1 plus years of experience in childcare, babysitting, or parenting experience or/any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • 3 plus years of a valid Idaho driver's license.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing…
