Qualifications
  • Four‑year Bachelor’s degree in a human‑related services field.
  • Minimum 1,040 documented hours working with children.
  • Certificate of completion in the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) course.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lb and push/pull up to 100 lb.
  • Knowledge of child growth, diverse needs of children with disabilities, and appropriate special education classroom practices.
  • Experience working with students who have emotional, physical, or mental disabilities.
  • Ability to instruct students one‑on‑one or in small groups under the direction of a Special Education Teacher.
  • Strong background in teaching methods and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Knowledgeable about word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and report writing.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of staff and students.
Previous Aide or Teaching Experience
  • Preferred, but not required.
Job Summary

Assist classroom or special‑education teachers in achieving the goals and objectives of each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) through individual, small‑group, or whole‑group instruction.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction, tutorials, and immediate feedback to reinforce learning.
  • Respond to student questions and requests for assistance.
  • Observe and record students’ work habits, time on task, and progress.
  • Help students locate instructional materials and assist with assignments.
  • Assist in the delivery of an effective instructional program and reinforce modified or accommodated materials.
  • Administer informal assessments and support the teacher in evaluating student performance.
  • Support large‑group activities such as drill, reading aloud, storytelling, and oral communication.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work.
  • Assist in library or media center activities.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Record and score achievement and diagnostic tests.
  • Encourage students to reach their highest potential and communicate classroom rules.
  • Assist the teacher in developing special strategies based on individual student needs.
  • Keep the supervising teacher informed of activities and any potential issues.
  • Operate and care for classroom equipment.
  • Assist with special‑needs support such as toileting, feeding, locomotion, and health needs.
  • Assist with loading/unloading special‑education pupils from transportation vehicles.
Other Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records for each student.
  • Familiarize with special‑education knowledge, due‑process procedures, and confidentiality laws.
  • Complete clerical duties, attend faculty meetings, and report activities to supervisors.
  • Pursue continuing professional growth through reading and professional development.
  • Represent the school district positively and follow district policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the classroom teacher, special‑education teacher, or director of special services in accordance with applicable federal and state law, administrative rules, and board policy.
