Idaho Equine Hospital Externship

Idaho Equine Hospital welcomes veterinary students (with priority given to 3rd and 4th-year students) for externships lasting 1–4 weeks, with most students choosing to stay 2 weeks.

Externs gain exposure to a wide variety of cases and work closely with staff veterinarians both during the day and on after-hours emergencies. Case experience may include lameness and sports medicine, surgery, medical workups, reproduction, and dentistry. Externs also assist intern veterinarians and technicians with after-hours treatments and emergencies, providing valuable hands‑on experience. Housing is provided on‑site, and externs are required to stay at the hospital during their visit.

This program also allows students to become familiar with the internship program offered by Idaho Equine Hospital (see AAEP listing or our website for more information).
