Contract Duration:
October 5, 2026 – October 1, 2027

Schedule:

40 hours/week (8 hours/day, Monday–Friday)

Max INC Rate: $85/INC

Max T4 Rate: $70.25

Position Overview

Our client, BC Hydro, is seeking an experienced Construction Technologist to support the planning, estimating, scheduling, and coordination of construction projects. This role will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field crews to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed construction cost estimates based on engineering drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Develop quantity take-offs, material estimates, labour calculations, and project schedules.
  • Analyze construction methods and recommend cost-effective approaches to minimize labour, equipment, and scheduling impacts.
  • Monitor project costs, schedules, and progress while identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Coordinate construction activities with internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and field crews.
  • Prepare procurement documentation for construction materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Review contractor submissions, verify quantity calculations, and assist with bid evaluations.
  • Maintain current records of equipment costs, production rates, and material pricing.
  • Produce technical reports, progress updates, charts, and project documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordination to construction teams and project stakeholders.
  • Support project management activities throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Perform site visits across British Columbia as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma of Technology from a recognized institute of technology or a degree in a construction-related discipline such as:
    • Engineering
    • Construction Management
    • Project Management
    • Forestry
    • Architecture
    • Quantity Surveying
    • Business Administration
  • OR a recognized trades qualification such as:
    • Electrician
    • Millwright
    • Power Line Technician
    • Winder
    • General Trades 1
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management, including field and/or office-based project support.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Personal vehicle available for travel to project sites.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
Required Skills
  • Strong construction estimating and scheduling experience.
  • Knowledge of civil, mechanical, or electrical construction practices with working knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Understanding of applicable construction standards and codes.
  • Experience supporting generation, substation, transmission, or distribution construction projects is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience reviewing project costs, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction estimating, scheduling, costing, and project management software.
  • Basic drafting and design skills are an asset.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and support construction field crews.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting utility or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience working with large capital construction programs.
  • Familiarity with procurement and contract administration processes.
  • Experience providing technical support to construction teams.
