Duties
The Modern Languages Studies Department at Vancouver Island University is committed to high standards in teaching, student engagement, and community connection.
We offer language courses in French, Spanish, and Japanese, including a two-year Certificate Program in Language and Culture for each language, emphasizing the development of linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding to meet a wide range of student needs and goals.
The Modern Languages Studies Department invites applications for a Limited Term Contract Instructor in Spanish Language. Responsibilities include teaching the four sections of introductory and intermediate courses in the Fall and Spring terms, such as Beginning Spanish I, Beginning Spanish II, and Intermediate Spanish I, as well as undertaking the assessment and placement of students in the Spanish language program.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required QualificationsM.A. in Spanish language or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level, as well as native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.
Preferred QualificationsPh.D. in Spanish language or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience with instructional technology and its applications to classroom teaching will be considered an asset.
