Duties
Teach theory and practice courses, as well as skills clinics, in all years of the Dental Hygiene program. Prepare and deliver classes, design and grade student assignments and tests, facilitate student integration of theory and practice, evaluation of student progress in practice courses, and curriculum development. Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, and liaise with faculty and staff.
May require travel to a variety of settings on Vancouver Island.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications- Master's degree in a related discipline.
- Current practicing registration/license, including certification in local anesthetics, with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) or out-of-province equivalent registration and eligibility for licensure.
- Minimum five years of recent clinical practice as a registered dental hygienist.
- Current CPR - Basic Life Support certification.
- Provincial Instructor Diploma or Equivalent.
- Experience teaching adults (theory/lab/clinical/practice) in a post-secondary setting with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
- A combination of education and teaching experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and team skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated self-direction and initiative.
- Demonstrated creativity in teaching and assessment.
- Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology in an educational environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
- PhD in a related field.
- Familiarity with learning management systems in an educational setting.
