Duties

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science and Technology invites applications for a two-semester Sessional Instructor who is qualified to instruct inorganic chemistry lecture and labs, and first year chemistry lecture and lab. The successful applicant will prepare course materials, provide individual and group instruction, provide student support, design and implement student evaluation, mark and grade student work, keep records, liaise with other instructors, technicians, and support personnel, work within the course delivery framework established in the department, and participate as an active member of the instructional faculty.

  • Develop and deliver engaging lecture and assessment materials for assigned chemistry courses, ensuring they meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Apply effective and inclusive teaching strategies across lectures, laboratories, and tutorials to foster student learning.
  • Evaluate and document student performance through fair and consistent assessment practices; maintain accurate grade records.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute actively to departmental initiatives and activities.

We are looking for an instructor to teach the following courses:
CHEM 222 - Inorganic Chemistry (and lab)
First year chemistry lectures and labs

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Chemistry, or related field. Candidates who hold a Master's degree and have relevant teaching or industry experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated expertise in inorganic chemistry.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach safely and effectively in laboratory environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Chemistry with specialization in inorganic chemistry.
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary setting.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., D2L/Brightspace).
  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse learning needs and inclusive teaching practices.
