Counsellor Position at Bayview Elementary School

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Counsellor for the  school year. This temporary role emphasizes student support and development through prevention and intervention methods.

In this role, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team, enhancing the personal, social, and educational progress of students. Although primarily a consultative position, you’ll connect families with community resources and lead development initiatives for students with complex needs. The assignment begins September 1, 2026, at Bayview Elementary School, with flexibility in scheduling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate within school-based and learning support teams

• Offer crisis counseling and connect families with services

• Assist with reports to the Ministry of Children and Family Development

• Guide the creation of Individual Education Plans and support plans

• Facilitate curricula related to social skills and anti-bullying

Requirements:

• Certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch

• Master’s degree in counseling or related field

• Minimum two years of teaching experience

• Commitment to ongoing professional development

• Skill in collaborative knowledge-sharing with staff and students
