Intermediate Teacher

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Intermediate Teacher to inspire and support students in their educational journey. The purpose of this role is to plan for, deliver, and monitor educational services for Snaw-naw-as Community Members while adhering to the philosophy, goals, and mission statement of the Snaw-naw-as School's vision and goals document. The successful candidate will be an expert in implementing elementary education that incorporates current research-based strategies and programs across the disciplines.

The successful candidate will maintain professional standards and confidentiality practices as well as an ability to be flexible in environments of a growing and developing school.

This position will start as a term position from August 31, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Review and extension of contract to a permanent, full-time position based on successful integration of our school's purpose based on the Snaw-naw-as vision, mission, and values document and will be reviewed at the end of the school year.

• Utilize the BC curriculum and apply it to learning for intermediate grades
• Plan, prepare, and provide instruction according to the BC school curriculum
• Use of Indigenous ways of knowing and apply these teachings to BC curriculum
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that scaffold for the diverse needs of the class
• Maintain attendance, encouraging regular presence of all students
• Implement Land Based education
• Perform daily prep work ensuring a tidy classroom with enough materials, visual aids, displays, and school-based activities for the day
• Create on-going student assessment of and for learning
• Communicate student progress with families
• Collaborate with colleagues for the benefits of the school
• Maintain confidential student and teacher files
• Manage parent communications and learning updates that include examples of students learning

• Build on child's identified strengths
• Support learning by implementing Independent Education Plans or learning profiles
• Ability to work positively and communicate with support staff and work together to create recommendations for student support such as Speech Language Therapy, OT, and/or Behaviour Intervention
• Report on child's changing needs and adjust learning plans when necessary
• Support students in learning communication skills and social/emotional strategies with both teachers and peers
• Support cultural and spiritual learning, including; singing, drumming, dance, language, land, and medicines through diverse methods
• Understand the child's diverse physical needs when playing and in transition times
• Implement physical inclusion strategies

• Create routine and general flow of the classroom, including; classroom expectations, routines, and set-up/tear-down of the classroom before and after instructional time
• Supervise all assigned outdoor time including yard time at recess
• Provide assistance to students in the case of injury or illness; performs assigned duties during fire/earthquake/lockdown drills and other emergency situations
• Follow current in-school and provincial guidelines and policies.

• Open communications with all staff members
• Carry out other assigned, comparable duties that are within the scope of knowledge and skills that are required for this job description

• Bachelor of Education is Required
• A focus on Elementary Level Education, preferred
• Teacher Regulation Branch Certification
• Minimum 1 year experience in teaching
• Experience working with Indigenous communities
• Strength-based and Trauma-Informed Practice training
• Ability to work with a SMART board and other related technologies
• Proficiency in the use of Windows-based computer applications, including;
  Excel, Word, and other standard computer applications

• Knowledge of Snaw-naw-as and/or other First Nations communities in BC
• Skills in implementing and supporting the IEP goals and the classroom adaptations for the student's diverse learning
• Ability to positively engage student in classroom activities (even if modified)
• Knowledge of age/diverse learning, social, and emotional strategies
• Knowledge of inclusion principles
• Knowledge of conflict resolution methods
