Position: Marine Engine Room Assistant Role
Join BC Ferries as a Marine Engine Room Assistant in Nanaimo. Focus on essential machinery maintenance and vessel safety while working closely with ship officers in a team-oriented environment.

The Engine Room Assistant is responsible for maintaining operational efficiency and safety aboard our vessels. Ideal candidates are proactive individuals with a mechanical background, committed to keeping engines and auxiliary systems in peak condition. Responsibilities cover machinery monitoring, cleaning, and supporting engineering tasks alongside daily safety checks and drills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain oil, water levels, and monitor engine performance

• Conduct cleaning routines for machinery and spaces

• Assist with engine maintenance and overhauls

• Perform routine safety checks and emergency drills

• Manage fuel level soundings and oil strainers

Requirements:

• Completion of STCW Basic Safety training

• Preferred 4th Class Motor Certificate

• Mechanical training or Engine Room Rating certification

• Excellent prioritization and communication skills

• Ability to work as part of a dedicated team
