Tetra Tech is adding a Junior Technologist to our Geotechnical Engineering team based in Nanaimo, BC
.
The salary range for this position is $56,000 to $64,000 per annum. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Your Role- Perform field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, asphalt and concrete.
- Typical tests include sieve analysis, density testing using nuclear density gauges, preparation of proctors and marshall testing, asphalt cement content, sand equivalents, Atterberg limits, hydrometers, moisture contents, etc. (Testing is undertaken in accordance with BC Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure procedures, CCIL, CSA and ASTM standards).
- Laboratory testing to be done at our Nanaimo, BC office location.
- Provide quality control and quality assurance on a variety of laboratory and field‑testing projects.
- Prepare field and testing reports.
- Ensure the lab is in compliance with CCIL/CSA and Tetra Tech’s in‑house quality testing procedures.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
- Diploma from a technical institute in Civil Engineering or Civil Technology is an asset but not required.
- Some materials testing experience is preferred, preference will be given to candidates with experience in concrete and soil testing.
- Previous experience working in engineering consulting would be considered an asset.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and must provide current driver’s abstract when applying, preference will be given to candidates with a clean driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to properly document sampling and testing information in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and listening skills.
- Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to contribute to the Practice by being a team player.
- Must be willing to travel and work in a field setting away from headquarters.
- CSA approved Steel‑Toed Safety Boots required.
- Be physically capable of performing the manual labour duties required.
