Position: Community Safety Officer at City
Become a vital part of the City of Nanaimo as a full-time Community Safety Officer. This role emphasizes public safety, community support, and engaging with vulnerable citizens through active patrols.

The City of Nanaimo is hiring permanent full-time Community Safety Officers to enhance public safety. You will report to the Senior Community Safety Officer, investigating bylaw complaints and ensuring compliance via negotiation or legal action. This position offers opportunities to connect with the community, addressing public disorder, homelessness, and mental health challenges through proactive engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Investigate public and departmental complaints on bylaw infractions

• Conduct visible day and night patrols in the community

• Liaise with businesses, first responders, and service organizations

• Support vulnerable populations in addressing safety issues

• Facilitate compliance through negotiation or enforcement actions

Requirements:

• Grade 12 completion and Bylaw Compliance certification

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in crisis response

• Intermediate First Aid certification from Work Safe BC

• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
