Urban Forester

Position: Urban Forester with City
Drive sustainable urban forestry initiatives as a Permanent Full Time Urban Forester with the City of Nanaimo. Focus on tree management, strategy implementation, and community engagement.

In this key role, you will execute the City’s Tree Management and Protection Bylaw while supporting the Urban Forestry Coordinator’s strategies. Solid decision-making and autonomy are essential as you tackle complex urban forestry challenges and ensure compliance with local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enforce the Tree Management and Protection Bylaw

• Support initiatives of the Urban Forestry Strategy

• Solicit community input on urban forestry matters

• Collaborate with the Development Engineering Manager

• Document activities and outcomes in urban forestry

Requirements:

• Diploma in horticulture or forestry discipline

• Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture

• Three years of arboriculture experience

• Certified Tree Risk Assessor

• Valid Class 5 BC Driving License
