Twitter Facebook Linkedin Send Save Print### Description The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is seeking a permanent full-time Solid Waste Compliance Officer in the Solid Waste Services department.
As a Solid Waste Compliance Officer (SWCO), you will support the RDN’s waste diversion goals by promoting and enforcing compliance with Solid Waste Bylaws, programs, and policies. Based out of the Regional Landfill or Church Road Transfer Station, this role combines onsite inspections, investigations, and administrative follow-up to address This Role, You Will
* Inspect inbound loads to ensure compliance with disposal requirements
* Identify contamination and apply appropriate actions (education, warnings, surcharges, or fines)
* Monitor licensed haulers and facilities for adherence to regulatory requirements
* Investigate illegal dumping, determine responsibility, and coordinate clean-ups
* Respond to complaints, gather evidence, and maintain compliance records
Overall, this role acts as an educator and enforcement officer, balancing engagement and knowledge sharing with the application of regulatory mechanisms to achieve compliance.### Requirements Qualifications for this position include a high school diploma, post-secondary education of over two (2) years in a related field, plus three (3) years prior job-related experience in a local government setting with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in compliance and enforcement work.
A Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement course is required along with possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Salary & Benefits POSITION DETAILS This is a permanent full-time (40 hours per week) Union position. Hours of work will vary and may include weekends. The (2026) rate of pay is $42.09 to $44.30. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
