RDN Solid Waste Compliance Specialist

Your role will ensure adherence to Solid Waste Bylaws and support the region’s waste diversion initiatives.
Working for the Regional District of Nanaimo, this permanent full-time position will see you engaged in multiple aspects of compliance within the Solid Waste Services department. Your responsibilities will include a mix of inspection, investigation, and educational initiatives aimed at fostering community compliance with waste regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect loads to ensure compliance with disposal standards
• Identify contamination and issue necessary warnings or fines
• Monitor licensed haulers for regulatory adherence
• Investigate illegal dumping and oversee cleanup operations
• Maintain compliance records and respond to public inquiries
Requirements:
• High school diploma and relevant post-secondary education
• At least three years of experience in local government
• One year experience in compliance and enforcement
• Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement course certification
• Hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
