Step into a full-time position as a Solid Waste Compliance Officer with the Regional District of Nanaimo. This role combines regulatory enforcement and community education within British Columbia’s waste management sector.
As part of the Solid Waste Services department, you will support diversion goals by enforcing compliance with Solid Waste Bylaws. Working from the Regional Landfill or Church Road Transfer Station, you will conduct inspections, manage violations, and provide education to promote adherence to regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect loads to ensure proper disposal practices
• Address contamination through education and warnings
• Monitor compliance among licensed haulers
• Investigate illegal dumping incidents and manage clean-ups
• Document responses to complaints and maintain records
Requirements:
• High school diploma with over two years of relevant education
• Three years of experience in a local government environment
• At least one year in compliance and enforcement
• Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement course completion required
• Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
