Support the Regional District of Nanaimo's waste management goals as a Solid Waste Compliance Officer. This full-time role focuses on compliance enforcement through inspections and education.
In this position with the Solid Waste Services department, you’ll be responsible for promoting compliance with solid waste bylaws and addressing instances of non-compliance. Working from either the Regional Landfill or Church Road Transfer Station, you will conduct inspections and engage with community members to enhance understanding of waste policies. Your regulatory oversight and educational initiatives are crucial in maintaining environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect incoming loads for compliant disposal practices
• Identify and address contamination with educational or penal actions
• Monitor compliance among licensed haulers and facilities
• Investigate illegal dumping and coordinate cleanup operations
• Handle public complaints and oversee compliance record-keeping
Requirements:
• High school diploma and related post-secondary education
• Three years of relevant local government experience
• Minimum one year in compliance and enforcement
• Completion of Level 1 Bylaw Enforcement course
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required
Enforce compliance and educate the community about solid waste management in Nanaimo.
