Labourer, Manufacturing ​/ Production, Material Handler

Position Overview

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a General Labourer to be based out of our Nanaimo, B.C. location. This role will be responsible for analyzing, sorting, cutting, and packaging non-ferrous metals for storage in the warehouse and for transport out of the yard. This position is part of the union.

• Receives metals from customers and assists in unloading if required
• Assesses and weighs various types and grades of non-ferrous metals
• Maximizes mix loads of scrap from customers by sorting, high-grading and segregating accordingly
• Dismantles scrap materials and removes high value metals from them
• Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order
• Communicates with customers and ensures they receive professional service
• Cuts larger too thick pieces of metal into smaller marketable pieces

• Knowledgeable about general safety practices
• Able to communicate professionally
• Willing to work in an outdoor environment (rain or shine)
• Ability to use a forklift or skid steer is an asset
• Experience with sorting and allocating non-ferrous metals, preferably in a busy, high-volume scrap yard is considered an asset
