The Position
We are currently hiring for Residential Child and Youth Workers (Grid 11) on a casual/on‑call basis. Positions are unionised under BCGEU and offer opportunities for part‑time and full‑time work as they become available.
Experience with challenging behaviours, ASIST Suicide training, de‑escalation techniques, and a minimum of one year working with individuals with significant mental health concerns or trauma will be given preference.
In Your Role You Will
Independently work with client(s) toward achieving the goals set out in their Individual Support Plan (ISP), encouraging them during setbacks and celebrating successes.
Support or supervise complex behavioural, emotional and social needs and development in the residence and during community activities.
Use de‑escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviours.
Assist clients in developing life skills within the home, including meal preparation, cleaning, and other household chores, in a consistent, healthy and safe environment and in the community.
Model healthy relationships and set boundaries.
Drive clients in care (in your own or company vehicle), accompany them to appointments, and supervise or participate with them in recreational and community activities.

Provide a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter prior to confirmation of employment.
As an Ideal Candidate You Possess
Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Disability Studies, Sociology, Healthcare Aide, PSW, Practical Nursing or equivalent.
Minimum one year of experience in adult, child or youth care, or with individuals with developmental disability, mental health issues, or brain injury in a community‑based setting.
Prior experience in related fields such as Community Support Worker, Education Assistant, Special Needs, Behaviour Interventionist, Youth Worker.
Valid BC Driver’s Class 5 licence and clean driver’s abstract. Having a reliable, insured vehicle is an asset.
Experience with positive behaviour supports and trauma‑informed care is an asset.
Valid CPR/First Aid, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate (Mandt) and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period).
Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening and provide three professional references prior to confirmed employment.
