Coastal Support Services Ltd. is currently seeking a compassionate and motivated Employment Specialist/Job Coach to support individuals with diverse abilities through our Supported Work Program.

Position Overview

As an Employment Specialist, you’ll work directly with individuals to support their employment goals. From resume building and job searching to workplace integration and retention, you’ll play a key role in empowering clients to succeed in the workforce.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one coaching in resume development, job applications, interview preparation, and workplace communication.
  • Support clients in building skills and changing habits that may hinder job placement or retention.
  • Develop and implement Individual Training Plans tailored to each client’s employment and life goals.
  • Deliver training in areas such as job readiness, workplace etiquette, communication, and essential life skills.
  • Identify and connect clients with suitable employment or volunteer opportunities aligned with their skills and interests.
  • Monitor client progress, provide regular performance updates, and adjust goals as needed.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with employers and community agencies to promote inclusive hiring practices.
  • Educate employers and coworkers about client needs while fostering natural supports in the workplace.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and documentation in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Coordinate community outings, guest presentations, and life skills workshops.
  • Continuously improve curriculum and training materials based on client feedback and best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Resources, Psychology, Career Development, Employment Programs, Community Support Work, Mental Health & Addictions, or related fields.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in employment support, career coaching, human resources, or working with individuals with diverse abilities.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of the local labor market and community resources.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Understanding of developmental disabilities and a strong commitment to promoting inclusion and dignity.
  • Culturally sensitive with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience liaising with families, caregivers, and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (working with vulnerable adults).
  • Standard First Aid – Level 1 (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
