Duties:

The Case Manager, Student Housing provides coordinated support, intervention, and case management services for students identified as students of concern within Student Housing. This role assesses student needs, develops intervention strategies, and connects students to appropriate on- and off-campus resources. The Case Manager plays a key role in responding to complex and sensitive student situations including mental health concerns, crisis incidents, and conduct-related matters, while promoting student well‑being and safety.

In collaboration with the Director, Student Housing, the Case Manager is jointly responsible for drafting and implementing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures associated with the position, and maintaining appropriate electronic case management records. This position participates in a 24/7 on‑call rotation and requires a combination of scheduled office hours and stand‑by status for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage.

Key Responsibilities
1. Case Management and Student Support

Provide individualized case management and intervention for students of concern

Conduct assessments, coordinate referrals, and monitor follow‑up support plans

Respond to critical incidents (e.g., mental health crises, substance use, hospitalization, safety concerns)

Coordinate Student Housing's response to critical student concerns and collaborate with campus teams (e.g., Conduct and Care, Behavioural Intervention Team, Security)

Liaise with external emergency and community services when required

Maintain accurate, confidential case records

Develop and implement protocols and procedures for student support

2. Outreach and Programming

Design and deliver outreach initiatives and preventative programming

Identify student trends and develop targeted support campaigns

Create and facilitate presentations for students, staff, and campus partners

Build and maintain relationships with community partners (e.g., Island Health)

Represent Student Housing on committees and working groups

3. Student Housing Conduct

Support administration of the Student Housing conduct process

Investigate incidents, conduct meetings, and document outcomes

Maintain records in accordance with privacy and due process requirements

Recommend sanctions aligned with housing policies and standards when required

Contribute to policy review and annual conduct reporting

4. Training

Develop and deliver training on early intervention and student support

Assess training needs and create comprehensive learning plans

5. Leadership and Administration

Participate in Student Housing leadership and planning processes

Contribute to strategic and operational initiatives

Provide functional guidance and in‑scope supervision to unionized staff

Serve in an on‑call rotation to support emergency response and risk management

Act as after‑hours representative for Student Housing when required

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Social Work or a related field and Registered Social Worker designation with the BC College of Social Workers. Minimum three years of related experience in student housing, youth services, social services, or similar environments.

Experience in case management, crisis response, and/or student support services

Experience working with diverse populations and complex social or mental health issues

Strong assessment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills

Ability to manage sensitive, complex, and high‑risk situations

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills

Knowledge of privacy legislation, ethical practice, and case management principles

Ability to build collaborative partnerships internally and externally

Strong organizational and documentation skills

A high degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgement is required

Strong awareness of community dynamics and student needs
