Water Resource Specialist – Town of Nantucket

The Natural Resources Department seeks a Water Resource Specialist to perform highly technical and administrative work in the coordination, analysis and monitoring of the Town of Nantucket’s water resources. Reporting to the Shellfish and Aquatic Resource Manager, the Water Resource Specialist will play a critical role in enhancing water quality and supporting the Town’s aquatic resource initiatives.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in biology or other natural resources related field with a preference in water chemistry; minimum of five (5) years of experience related to the field of marine water chemistry or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requirements- A valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license, or the ability to obtain one before start of employment.
- Obtain SCUBA certification and Massachusetts boater safety certificate within 120 days of employment.
- Working knowledge of computer applications for ecological data, simulations and complex modeling.
- Proficiency in biological, physical and chemical water monitoring techniques.
- Physical effort required: manual dexterity and manipulation, lifting and carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds frequently, outdoor labor in inclement weather, physical agility to swim essential, excellent eyesight (sharp close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision) and hearing within normal ranges essential.
- This is a 40 hour per week LiUNA Union, SA position.
Starting Hourly Rate: $51.36 (new hires) – $65.06 (employees with 20 years of service with the Town of Nantucket)
