County of Napa invites applications for the Police Officer Trainee role. The position requires that applicants have completed the POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLET‑B) and received a T‑Score of 48 or higher within the last six months. A letter verifying the T‑Score must be attached to the application.

Compensation & Benefits

Police Officer Trainees are paid $34–$41 per hour and receive benefits while attending the police academy. Upon graduation and swearing in as a Police Officer, additional pay and benefits are provided. Full‑time Officers earn a base salary of $115,148–$147,082 annually with comprehensive health and retirement benefits.

Physical Agility Testing (PAT)

• Chain Link Fence Climb: run 5 yards, climb a 6‑foot chain link fence, continue 25 yards
• Solid Fence Climb: run 5 yards, climb a 6‑foot solid fence, continue 25 yards
• Body Drag: lift and drag a 165‑pound dummy 32 feet
• Obstacle Course/Agility Run: run a 99‑yard course with obstacles and a 34‑inch high vault
• 500‑yard run

Selection Process

Application Appraisal – evaluate questionnaire, education, training, experience, and documentation.

Physical Agility Test – invited to PAT after appraisal success.

In‑Person Interview – successful PAT candidates are interviewed.

Eligibility List – interviewees who pass the interview are placed on the list.

Background Investigation – polygraph, psych assessment, and medical examination.

Probationary Period – new officers establish residence as required.

Applicants must submit a California Personal History Statement (POST Form 2‑251) and undergo a comprehensive background check, including a polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam. Failure to provide required documents or to comply with investigation requirements will result in disqualification.
