We are hiring an Assistant Tasting Room Manager to support the opening of our newly designed, state‑of‑the‑art tasting room and build a world‑class hospitality experience.
We are seeking a hospitality professional with a proven track record in luxury environments to help us deliver world‑class guest experiences. Under the direction of the Tasting Room Manager, the Assistant Tasting Room Manager will oversee all aspects of the tasting room, from creating positive customer interactions to helping meet sales and Wine Insider sign‑ups. This vital position serves as a frontline leader, actively guiding daily operations, training and mentoring new team members, and fostering a high‑performance culture.
The Assistant Manager will support Events and the other winery locations (Landmark Vineyards & JUSTIN Winery) when needed, working hand‑in‑hand with other Tasting Room leadership. The ideal candidate must possess world‑class customer service and sales skills and have a genuine passion for wine. This full‑time role requires a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to work evening shifts as needed.
- Provide on‑floor leadership to maintain the flow of operations in all areas of the Lewis tasting room.
- Create memorable guest experiences and service standards to maintain the brand’s reputation for excellence, ensuring service delivery stays above 98% and meets departmental KPIs.
- Motivate, coach, and develop staff to achieve or exceed established targets.
- Enforce company policies and standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Collaborate with other departments to promote Lewis Cellars’s brands and products.
- Supervise tasting room staff, provide direction, and delegate responsibilities as needed.
- Manage staff scheduling, timecards, performance reviews, employee development, and employee safety.
- Oversee Tasting Room team incentives to meet plans and maximize team effectiveness.
- Lead the winery outreach program and schedule Tasting Room staff accordingly for outreach winery support.
- Monitor progress goals and provide reports to senior leadership.
- Partner with the Inventory Manager and Operations Manager to determine tasting menus, and create or update other menus based on inventory and wine menu.
- Resolve guest concerns/complaints using good judgment and tact.
- Facilitate and promote good communication between all departments (Hospitality, Marketing, Wine Society, Accounting, Production, Housekeeping, etc.).
- 3+ years of luxury hospitality experience in a tasting room, hotel, restaurant, or retail setting; wine industry experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a MICHELIN, Forbes 5-Star, or AAA 5-Diamond setting.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or management experience, including responsibility for building, training, and mentoring high‑performing teams.
- Proven track record of driving sales and achieving revenue targets with a focus on upselling and cultivating long‑term client relationships.
- Knowledge of opening a new outlet or service location is highly desirable.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Level I Sommelier or willingness to get a Level I or WSET Level 2 (with company sponsorship).
- Ability to establish direction, obtain commitment, and execute appropriate management processes.
- Strong understanding of P&L and labor planning, with the ability to perform technical calculations, manage budgets, and analyze data using spreadsheets and charts.
- Bachelor’s or equivalent experience and prior experience developing, hiring, and building up a team.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
