As a Maintenance Laborer (Seasonal Extra Help) with the City’s Parks and Urban Forestry Division, you'll pla y a vital role in maintaining our beautiful parks, landscapes, and urban forestry.
This is a Seasonal Extra Help position that can work up to 999 hours before June 20, 2026. Weekly hours are dependent on the needs of the division.

There are several vacancies for this position, and we are looking for applicants who can work one of the following schedules:
- Schedule 1: Consists of working weekdays starting at 5:30AM and working either three 9-hour shifts or four 8-hour shifts
- Schedule 2: Consists of working weekdays with some weekends from 4:0AM to 12:30PM

Part-Time Extra Help positions are not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Temporary and part-time employees are at-will and not covered by the Civil Service System. Some benefits for temporary employees include sick leave, temporary employee retirement plan, and 3.5% bilingual pay if applicable.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Cleans and removes debris, weeds, and litter from parks, landscapes, facilities, and other City property by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.
Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
Helps repair and maintain fences, playground equipment, gates, and walks and walkways using a hammer, saws, paint brushes; appropriate hand tools, spade, pick, hoe, shovels; and operating edgers, string trimmer, blower, and vacuum as directed.
Assist in the maintenance tasks associated with the care of grounds, landscaping, trees, facilities, and other City property including cleaning restrooms, preparing ball fields, planting trees, dragging brush, assisting with tree work, and emptying garbage cans.
May operate small trucks and utility vehicles, light equipment, and power tools necessary to complete maintenance for the above assigned areas.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: Functions, characteristics and proper use and care of common hand tools and safe work practices.
Ability to: Be trained in the use of supplies, tools and equipment used in in the work areas as described above in a variety of weather conditions. Basic skills in following simple oral and written instructions; skills in performing manual work, lifting heavy objects up to 90 pounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other persons.
Special Requirements- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a good driving record is required.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of hire.
