Position Summary

The North Central College English Language Institute (ELI) is seeking part-time instructors in the Intensive English Program. Course instruction may include Reading & Vocabulary, Writing & Grammar, Listening and Speaking, or Cultural Topics.

The part-time instructors report to the ELI Director. This position is responsible for teaching multilingual students in a variety of academic English language topics, at different levels. Instructors should be familiar with needs assessments and be able to effectively adapt curriculum to serve a variety of student populations.

Responsibilities

Prepare for and teach courses for English Language Learners as assigned and in accordance with curricular guidelines.

Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies.

Maintain and submit records of student attendance in accordance with program requirements.

Maintain and submit course syllabi and lesson plans in accordance with program requirements.

Attend scheduled staff meetings.

Meet with students, as appropriate.

Participate in orientation and placement testing, as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Standards

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or related field.

Experience teaching in an Intensive English Program at the university level preferred.

Experience teaching mixed-level students preferred.

Experience with content-based instruction preferred.

Experience working with students from beginning to advanced level preferred.

Experience with alternative forms of assessment preferred
