Mobile Diesel Technician Level IIThe Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and electronic diagnostics in a mobile/field environment. This role works under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher and continues to learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on varied truck equipment, such as electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, and air‑conditioning systems.
- Inspect, test, and analyze defective equipment using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, assess information accuracy, and generate solutions using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company truck, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers, providing information and resolving issues.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time efficiently.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work using iOS devices and the TRAIT application, including photos of work performed.
- Complete DOT forms and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Operate independently and manage your daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.
- Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates and purchase order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Maintain the company truck and perform daily inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years of related experience; alternative combinations such as a degree/certification or 5+ years of experience are acceptable.
- Possess and supply a hand tool kit necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or submit a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining).
- Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Must have a Class C license.
