Position: Accounting Technician I

Job Summary

Performs entry level accounting and clerical duties for an assigned Division, Department and/or accounting program. Duties include receiving, documenting and processing accounting documents; entering, updating and retrieving data in the automated financial systems, preparing accounting documents; and maintaining accounting and fiscal records and files.

Essential Functions
  • Receives and processes financial documents for assigned accounting functions (e.g., purchase order requisitions, utility fees, invoices); reviews documents; ensures accuracy; completes with appropriate information such as account codes, vendor numbers.
  • Prepares documents for assigned accounting programs (invoices, bills, check requests, purchase orders, adjustments) ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Establishes and maintains accounting information in the automated financial information systems; posts information and performs data entry for accounting transactions; maintains automated files and databases; processes data to produce accounting documents.
  • Accepts and posts payments for assigned programs/functions; prepares receipts and submits interfaces to financial management system.
  • Establishes and maintains a variety of Division records and files including procurement, accounts receivable/payable files, correspondence, monthly reports, purchase order files.
  • Performs general clerical tasks in support of assigned functions such as opening and distributing mail, distributing accounting documents, and reporting bills to appropriate Divisions.
  • Provides customer service and/or assistance to customers, County employees, vendors, contractors and the public.

Essential employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. On an incident‑by‑incident basis, the County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) months of related experience.
