Library Specialist I - part-time (Golden Gate Branch Library)

Essential Functions
- Implements all circulation policies and procedures; executes overall circulation desk operations. Performs circulation duties; checks books in and out; retrieves books from book drop; takes overdue fines, writes receipts, and completes daily cash receipts; issues library cards; requests inter‑library loan services; assists in managing circulation and patron services.
- Operates library facility; shelves books and audio video; reads shelves; ensures shelves are in order; assists in removing and restocking library inventories.
- Provides customer service to patrons: assists in selecting material; assists with research; looks up information in electronic resources, encyclopedias, reference books, and the online catalog; directs and assists with reference questions; maintains patron registration files.
- Helps patrons operate copier, computers, and internet service; enrolls patrons in special programs and provides general assistance. Processes incoming and outgoing mail; checks in periodicals.
- Repairs books and cassette sets or coordinates repairs with vendors; glues and/or tapes torn pages, replaces missing pages, re‑inserts and glues loose pages; places mylar covers; reviews audio and video cassettes for damage and replaces as needed.
- Researches and processes missing materials; contacts patrons by phone and letter regarding missing items and fines; places stops on accounts until resolved; processes lists for send items and unclaimed books.
- Processes new and gift books, audiovisual, and other library materials; stamps logo, types and attaches spine labels; checks books into system.
- Designs and prepares displays, bulletin boards, and posters.
- Answers incoming telephone calls and directs calls to appropriate stations.
- Attends library meetings and training sessions; assigns volunteers and assists them as necessary.
- Adds patron reserve requests to system; notifies patrons when items are available.
- Operates computer, printer, copier, facsimile machine, telephone, and other equipment to complete essential functions, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other software.
- May be required to transfer temporarily or permanently to another library location based on business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months of experience in library work, clerical, customer service, or a related field preferred.
- Fingerprinting required.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Employees may be required to work during emergencies, as determined by the County’s Administrative Office.
