Inventory Specialist I - Fleet Management
Job Summary
Maintains inventory of parts, equipment, tools, and other materials used to sustain County repair, maintenance, and operational requirements.
Essential Functions
- Maintains inventory of parts, supplies, and other materials; monitors inventory levels to ensure adequate quantities; conducts periodic physical inventory counts; maintains current inventory records.
- Maintains organization and cleanliness of shop, supply room, supply yard, or other work/storage areas; organizes storage areas and assigns numbers/labels to stock items to facilitate identification and location of items; maintains security of items stored in or transported to/from storage areas; performs general housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining storage areas and work areas.
- Issues parts and supply items from inventory; maintains logs/records of materials issued.
- Places orders for stock items or special‑order items; determines necessary quantities to maintain appropriate levels of standard inventory items on hand; researches parts information as needed; assists other personnel with parts identification and parts requests; obtains competitive bids and price quotes for parts, equipment, and contracted services; prepares purchase requisitions and issues purchase order numbers; monitors status of pending orders and initiates follow‑up actions.
- Receives incoming orders, packages, or deliveries; picks up parts at vendors as needed; loads/unloads materials; inspects deliveries to verify receipt of correct materials and of entire order; verifies accuracy of packing slips and receiving documents.
- Processes shipments of return orders, damaged parts, and warranty parts; tracks status of returned items and warranty items to ensure proper credit.
- Maintains computerized inventory records; posts/enters items ordered, items received, items issued, and other inventory activities into computer system; researches inventory records in computer system as needed.
- Provides budgetary input; compiles statistical data to assist with budget preparation; monitors purchases/expenditures to ensure availability of budget funds; advises supervisor of status of expenditures in relation to budget; makes recommendations for future expenditures.
- Provides customer service; communicates with personnel via telephone and radio; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service; provides information and initiates problem resolution.
- Communicates with vendors regarding product availability, bids/price quotes, status of orders, problems, discrepancies, or other issues; maintains current vendor names, telephone numbers, and pertinent information.
- Drives, tows, or hauls vehicles/equipment into/out of shop; delivers vehicles to maintenance facilities for repair/maintenance work; delivers parts to employees in the field or at work sites as needed.
Additional Functions
- Performs various clerical/administrative tasks; creates forms for use within office; fills out work order forms; sends/receives e‑mail messages.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.
Licenses / Certificates
- May require a valid Forklift Operator license.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident‑by‑incident basis.
