Position OverviewAs a Construction Inspector at LJA Transportation, you will manage Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and local government agency construction contracts for transportation projects including roadway, highway, bridges, and other structures. Projects may involve utilities, stormwater pollution prevention, temporary traffic control, lighting, signalization, drainage, asphalt and concrete pavement, ITS, earthwork, excavation, and other improvements.
Typical Day- Read and interpret contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, permits and other contract documents.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgement in daily assignments.
- Review project inspection activities with contractors; advance issues to supervisor promptly when needed.
- Receive general instructions from the CEI Sr. Inspector, CEI Project Administrator and/or CEI Sr. Project Engineer.
- Perform material testing and inspection and prepare documentation for acceptance of contractors’ materials and quality of workmanship.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma.
- CTQP qualified and certified in Florida MOT/TTC, FDEP SWPPP and others as required for FDOT projects, or ability to obtain them.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships.
- Two (2) years of related experience, one (1) year involving construction of major road or bridge structures.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and working knowledge of Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of, and interpretation of, construction specifications and construction standards.
- Driving to and from various locations.
- Intermittent standing, bending, sitting, walking, squatting, climbing, kneeling and lifting.
- Frequently lifting and/or moving density/moisture gauges and other testing equipment and material samples.
- Working near equipment and machinery, traversing uneven ground, climbing ladders, exposure to dust, noise, weather, and potential work at heights.
