Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice nurse who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions for patients of the NCH Physician Group. The APP works in collaboration with the APPs, management team, peers, and staff to advance nursing and promote the development of an evidence-based professional practice environment. The APP works under the approved and agreed protocols signed by the supervising NCH Physician Group physician.
The APP works to continually improve clinical outcomes, facilitate throughput, and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care.
- Communication with Administrative/Clinical Staff. Develop an active communication strategy with medical and other staff to inform on requirements regarding conduct of their work, working under the approved and agreed protocol signed by the supervising NCH Physician Group physician who will oversee all aspects of patient care delivered by the APP.
- Organizational and Medical Ethics. Define, focus, and resolve problems in collaboration with the APP’s assigned physician and other clinical and administrative staff.
- Strategic Planning. Participate in developing the practice’s strategic plan with Senior Leadership, evaluate annually, and report results to the Board of Directors through the Chief Medical Officer.
- Performance Improvement. Follow the performance evaluation program created by the Quality of Care Committee.
- APP Recruitment. Facilitate recruitment of high-quality APPs and other professional personnel for the NCH Physician Group.
- Contracting. Deliver medical care consistent with terms of managed care and insurance contracts.
- Litigation. Assist the administrative team in preparing for and responding to litigation involving the group.
- Clinical Responsibilities. Provide leadership for all patient care activities; exemplify the philosophy of care in clinical and administrative conduct.
- Performance Improvement (clinical operations). Ensure integrity and quality of clinical programs, participate in accreditation and regulatory reviews, and document assessments and activities to assure high-quality operations.
- Foster high-quality and efficient clinical operations within the NCH Physician Group.
- Supervise medical support staff (e.g., LPNs and Medical Assistants) who support the APP’s practice.
- Design, develop, and implement clinical programs to provide efficient, effective, and feasible patient care.
- Oversee medical services and procedures to ensure appropriateness, quality, and integration into the clinical program.
- Oversee staffing to ensure effective, sufficient, and efficient clinical coverage.
- Participate in committees or work groups as reasonably requested by the supervising physician Chief Medical Officer.
- Protect and implement patients’ rights in care delivery.
- Provide direct patient care as necessary for patient well-being.
- Act as liaison to the medical staff to communicate important medical matters to the Board of Directors.
- Problem Solving. Resolve immediate clinical problems affecting patient care.
- Policy and program development to address knowledge or skill gaps and support professional development.
- Represent NCH Physician Group in the community through interviews, lectures, and related activities.
- Strategic Planning. Contribute to long-range strategies for clinical and economic success; identify potential issues from proposals.
- Marketing and Clinical Marketing. Advise on marketing plans and participate in community outreach and education efforts related to clinical services.
- Enhance awareness and collaboration with administrative and medical staff in managed care settings.
- Participate in managed care negotiations as needed.
- Assist in responding to appeals, denials, and other payer communications.
- Stay educated on developments in contemporary care management.
- Carry out other duties to meet clinical and administrative needs of the group.
