Company Description

The mission of the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center is to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against hatred and to promote mutual respect.

The Museum collects and displays artifacts and photographs from local survivors and liberators and their families to show the impact of unchecked hatred and the importance of acting against hatred and bias. It provides educational programs and activities to students at all grade levels at the Museum and at schools and presents public programs and special exhibitions that highlight elements of our collection and stories related to the Holocaust and other genocides.

Role Description

The Community Engagement Manager engages with local schools to promote field trips and in‑school programs, as well as serving as a bridge builder with the community at large to create partnerships with organizations, neighborhoods, retired living facilities, and libraries for programs and Museum tours.

This is a full‑time position with benefits that reports to the CEO and works closely with the Education, Development, and Communications Departments.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and refine the Education Department’s database of teacher and administrative staff for schools in the SWFL area.
  • Communicate with schools via email, phone and personal visits, informing them of the array of free Holocaust Education resources the Museum offers and special programs such as scholarships, workshops for students, teacher appreciation events, and other offerings.
  • Coordinate with the Education Department for scheduling field trips, Pop‑Up Museum installations, Boxcar placement, Survivor and 2G Talks and other programs. This position is public facing and includes traveling to schools across the 9 counties we serve to set up the Pop‑Up Museum panels and being present for Survivor/2G talks.
  • In partnership with the Education Department, create appropriate marketing materials, such as fliers, brochures, sample books, PowerPoint and/or short videos to illustrate the Museum’s educational resources.
  • Participate in educational workshops for teachers and students throughout the year, such as district in‑service days, departmental professional development opportunities, and upcoming new Antisemitism student workshop.
Community Outreach
  • Communicate with lifestyle and program managers of retirement communities, service clubs, neighborhoods to schedule talks by our Speaker’s Bureau and Private Group Tours.
  • Communicate with area nonprofit organizations for special projects, e.g. Group Tours for people with disabilities, youth shelters, special exhibit viewings, etc.
  • Create and use appropriate marketing materials.
  • Coordinate with other Museum staff for scheduling of talks and Group Tours.
  • Schedule and manage volunteers for Guest Relations, Education, and Galleries, including Docents and Gallery Guides.
  • Oversee the scheduling of Docent Tours for the public and keep Docents informed of tour cancellations.
  • Participate in Volunteer Expos in conjunction with Communications department to recruit more volunteers and spread awareness of the Museum.
Evaluation
  • In partnership with the Education Dept. and the CEO, design survey instruments and collect information on customer satisfaction with their experience with the Museum and share this information with Museum staff.
Other
  • Serve as the Museum’s representative, when necessary, in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Passion for the mission of the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technology‑proficiency essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in nonprofit marketing and/or teaching.
  • Must have reliable transportation, ability to sit for extended periods of time and lift at least 50 pounds.
