Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician manages inventory, distributes, receives, and processes sterile instruments. They maintain the case cart room and ensure accurate case pulling based on doctor’s preference cards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow department policies and procedures; act as a preceptor for staff.
  • Use PPE appropriately.
  • Operate washer/decontaminator, load instruments correctly, and record loads.
  • Use Sonic Cleaner and compressed air properly.
  • Receive contaminated instruments, disassemble, clean, and hand wash as needed.
  • Sort instruments into specific sets, understand instrument trays, and identify heat/fluid sensitive items for hand cleaning.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions for use and operate sterilizers (Steam, Sterrad, Steris System
    1).
  • Manage sterilization parameters, validate processes, and document results using biological indicators.
  • Reconcile physician preferences and supplies, and prepare instruments and packaging.
  • Supervise staff, prepare shift reports, and identify waste reduction opportunities.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Surgical Tech or Sterile Processing Tech training, or certification (CSPDT or CRCST).
  • Or at least 2 years of sterile processing experience with certification within one year.
  • Intermediate computer skills:
    Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows.
