The position of the Health Services Representative in the Tuberculosis (TB) area is responsible for providing support to the TB nurse case managers; providing Directly Observed Therapy (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). assisting with contact investigations and identifying TB cases. This position requires the person to function independently as directed within the TB team. The position is at risk for exposure to respiratory pathogens (moderate risk level) and blood borne pathogens under OSHA guidelines and requires semi-annual TB assessment which may include a TB skin test (TST)/an interferon‑γ release assay (IGRA) test and/or chest x‑ray;
it also requires up‑to‑date vaccinations for some vaccine‑preventable diseases. The role contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and process improvements. The position reports directly to the Nursing Program Specialist for Tuberculosis (TB).
- Coordinates, schedules, and provides Directly Observed Therapy clinic and field settings.
- Initiates or assists with TB contact investigations; locates and facilitates contacts for testing; collects data by screening for symptoms and interviews clients and contacts to identify risk factors; reports status to the Nurse Case Manager.
- Actively attempts to locate lost or non‑adherent clients by telephone, home visits and other field investigation activities; initiates corrective actions and reports status to the NCM.
- Performs basic testing for TB program clients including TSTs, sputum inductions, HIV counseling and testing, and phlebotomy.
- Provides education to clients and others about TB and related topics.
- Collects and records TB data into HMS or patient chart and assists with reports and quality improvement.
- Assists with coordination of respiratory fit testing program, performing fit testing and documenting results.
- Sets up and maintains remote video monitoring equipment for DOT; keeps documentation of assignments.
- Provides backup in clinic area, performing consultations on suspect/active cases, symptom screenings, TSTs and other clinic assignments.
- Completes administrative duties such as cell phone verification forms, travel logs, reimbursement timesheets, employee activity records, meetings attendance, required trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of tuberculosis disease process and community implications.
- Knowledge of directions to locations, medications, adverse effects, and emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and effective communication.
- Ability to work with others and independently when needed.
- Ability to conduct fact‑finding interviews, health investigations and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and adapt to scheduled work assignments.
- Ability to set up and operate a video telephone.
- Ability to do data entry, create and use Excel, operate a fax machine, multi‑line telephone, cell phone.
Current driver’s license and reliable transportation; willingness to use personal vehicle for business related travel.
Required Disaster Training:
Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200 and 700, or completion within 90 days of employment.
Ability to wear an N‑95 respirator.
Multilingual – fluent in both English and Spanish or English and Creole.
Ability to perform phlebotomy and read TSTs.
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in emergencies.
Preferred- A bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university in health or science related field, or comparable experience.
- Four years of direct experience can substitute a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience drawing blood.
- Experience with Directly Observed Therapy using electronic health records.
- Experience working in a TB, communicable disease, and/or surveillance program.
