Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Employment Type: Full Time Shift: 8am – 4pm Pay Rate Range: TBD

Description:

This position is a multi-craft maintenance role responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repair on all machinery and facility systems, including mechanical, electrical (AC and DC), pneumatics, and hydraulics. Knowledge of the 5S principles is required.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Performing breakdowns and preventive machine maintenance (50%)
  • Basic fabrication and equipment wiring (25%)
  • Facility maintenance (25%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:
  • Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Mathematics – Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and statistics.
  • Electrical – Understanding electrical principles and wiring of equipment AC and DC.
  • Engineering and Technology – Knowledge of engineering science and technology. PLC Programming will be a bonus.
Skills:
  • Critical Thinking – Use logic to identify approaches to problems, solutions and drawing conclusions.
  • Time Management – Managing your own time.
  • Instructing – Must be able to teach others how to perform tasks.
  • Repairing – Repairing machines as well as the facility.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Performing PM maintenance and determining when and what is needed.
  • Troubleshooting – Determining causes of errors and deciding a plan of action to correct the error.
Abilities:
  • Written Comprehension – The ability to read and understand information and ideas in written form.
  • Oral Expression – The ability to communicate their thoughts and information so that others will understand.
  • Visualization – The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved, rearranged, or modified.
  • Technical Drawing – Ability to understand technical drawings as well as creating basic drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Fabrication – Ability to design and fabricate basic equipment and components.
Required

Education and Experience:
  • Completion of High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Five years working experience in manufacturing and facility maintenance. Associates Degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for Associate degree depending on work history. Welding certifications are a plus but not necessary.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to push 100 pounds (Equipment and Machinery); lift a minimum of 50 pounds (Motors and Transmissions); frequently lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb ladder and step ladder.
  • Color vision.
  • Hearing.
  • Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontal, walking, etc., as job may require.
  • Ability to see details at a close range.
  • Ability to work over head for periods of time.
  • Requires high manual dexterity and fine motor skills in both hands.

The production environment is typical of many indoor manufacturing facilities. This is a “Safety First” facility; PPE gear is mandatory with no exceptions. The noise generated within the facility is moderate but sometimes usage of certain equipment may require hearing protection. Employees frequently work on or around moving and heated equipment sometimes with extreme temperatures.

Equipment Used:
  • Employees frequently use power tools, hand tools, pneumatic tools, lathes and grinders.
  • Employees occasionally use oxy-acetylene torches, and electrical testing equipment.
