Job Description: Automation Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Revision Date: NA

Pay Rate: $34.00 - $38.00 an hour, depending on experience

Description: This position is for a technician experienced in the automation process. Duties include industrial electrical panel fabrication and build, component layout of electrical enclosures, electrical assemblies’ controls and wiring, diagnose PLC programs and modifications to programs, testing and troubleshooting electrical equipment, retrofitting motors, drives and components. Works on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Basic maintenance duties 25%

Below requirements indicate knowledge, skill and/or ability to satisfactorily perform essential duties.

Knowledge
  • Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Mathematics – Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and statistics.
  • Electrical – Understanding electrical principles and wiring of equipment AC and DC.
  • Engineering and Technology – Knowledge of engineering science and technology
  • PLC Programming is a must

Note: If you have experience in any of the PLC/HMI & other software listed below, you move to the front of the line for interviews:
Rockwell Studio 5000, RS Logix 500, RS Linx, Automation Direct (Productivity Suite/Click/C-More HMI), Delta Program, Maple Systems – Easy Builder ProHMI, Solid Works, Keyence LS-Navigator 2 and/or Zumbach Controls.

  • Visualization – The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved, rearranged, or modified.
  • Technical Drawing – Ability to understand technical drawings as well as creating basic drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Fabrication – Ability to design and fabricate basic equipment and components.
Physical Functions
  • Ability to push 100 pounds (Equipment and Machinery); ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to frequently lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as ability to work overhead for periods of time.
  • Ability to climb ladder and step ladder.
  • Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontal, walking, etc., as job may require.
  • Ability to see details at a close range. Color Vision
  • Requires high manual dexterity and fine motor skills in both hands.
Work Conditions

The environment is typical of many indoor manufacturing facilities. This is a “Safety First” facility. PPE gear is mandatory with no exceptions. The noise generated within the facility is moderate but sometimes using certain equipment may require hearing protection. Employees frequently work on or around moving and heated equipment sometimes with extreme temperatures.

Equipment Used

Employees frequently use power tools, hand tools, pneumatic tools, lathes and grinders. Employees occasionally use oxy-acetylene torches, and electrical testing equipment.

Required

Education and Experience

Completion of High School Degree or equivalent. Five years working experience in manufacturing and facility maintenance.
Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred
. Additional experience may be substituted for associate degree depending on work history. Welding certifications are a plus but not necessary.
