Position: Child and Youth Program Direct Care Supervisor- Support Site CDC
Summary
The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Direct Care Supervisor assists the facility Director in providing routine supervisory oversight, support, and instruction for CYP Direct Care Professionals in Child Development Centers (CDC) and School Age Care (SAC) Programs. The supervisor provides oversight and accountability of assigned staff during all program operation hours.

Responsibilities

Supervisory Duties

Direct staff work and assign tasks based on priorities, difficulty, and staff capability.

Conduct annual performance reviews.

Participate in section staffing decisions.

Ensure staff receive proper training.

Address potential disciplinary or performance issues promptly and take corrective action as necessary.

Personnel Management

Supervise an assigned team of direct care professionals and volunteers.

Implement personnel actions and support the CYP Director in selection, training, promotion, disciplinary actions, and employee recognition.

Establish local performance standards and rate employees’ performance.

Develop staffing schedules and validate classroom opening and closing procedures.

Ensure implementation of a developmentally appropriate program that promotes children’s and youth’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Coordinate and supervise field trips.

Conduct frequent physical checks of classrooms and activity areas for supervision and accountability.

Perform quality assurance checks on classroom/activity records.

Ensure specialized programs for children and youth with special needs are implemented according to policy.

Ensure staff are trained on and adhere to special instructions from parents.

Assist with survey development, implementation, and analysis of staff and patron needs.

Program Management

Resolve personnel‑related complaints and recommend corrective action to the Director.

Encourage and facilitate pursuit of continuing education, including CDA, MSA credentials or college‑level classes.

Program Operations

Guide staff in responding to and administering medication as required.

Ensure facility, program, and activity security through routine safety checks.

Communication

Initiate professional conversations with parents, other CYP professionals, installation personnel, school representatives, and partner organizations.

Interact with CYP Program Assistant team members, parents, school personnel, contractors, volunteers, and installation leadership.

Interpret and apply child and youth development philosophy and Department of Navy policies based on patron needs and program assessment.

Implement standard operating procedures, policies, and procedures.

Ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.

Collaborate with other CYP leaders, parents, and training & certification teams.

Participate in addressing and resolving concerns with parents, volunteers, and employees.

Conduct parent orientations and ensure required parent interactions occur.

Compliance

Document observations, detailed notes, and knowledge of behavior strategies.

Ensure staff have resources to implement Inclusion Support Plans.

Management Operations

Assist in obtaining and retaining DoD certification and accreditation.

Oversee development and delivery of core programs and activities.

Review and submit accident/incident reports.

Maintain child records and provide regular updates to the T&C and CYP management.

Ensure compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Serve as mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services per local policy.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

Must complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, Tier 1 Child Care check, and State Criminal History Repository check.

Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state, or national accreditation institutions.

Pass a pre‑employment physical and maintain required immunizations.

Participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days.
