Experteer Overview In this role you apply operations research to optimise military and operational processes within the Joint Assessment Division. You will develop models and algorithms to predict outcomes, assess risks, and evaluate scenarios to support decision-making for joint operations. You will collaborate across staff and IT teams to translate complex analytics into actionable insights. The position offers a chance to contribute to campaign assessment and PMESII‑engagement through advanced modelling, with opportunities to train others and stay at the forefront of optimisation methods.
Responsibilities Determine how OA/OR and optimisation can support Division and HQ work Analyse complex problems with mathematical models to recommend optimal solutions
Develop and implement algorithms to optimise processes and resource allocation
Collaborate with staff officers, command group, engineers, and IT personnel
Create and validate optimisation models to predict outcomes and evaluate scenarios
Present findings to stakeholders via reports, visualisations, and briefings
Monitor and refine models based on feedback and changing requirements
Stay updated on advances in OR methods and tools
Conduct analytical studies to support decision‑making in joint warfare, logistics, deployment and sustainment
Lead training on optimisation methods for Division and HQ personnel
Participate in project teams or working groups as directed
Qualifications
Experience with military modelling and optimisation (linear, integer, mixed‑integer, non‑linear, stochastic)
Knowledge of joint and/or combined operations at operational and tactical levels
Ability to apply standard OR optimisation techniques (statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, linear programming)
Proficiency in software for analytical optimisation
Experience with mathematical modelling and optimisation software
Experience with optimisation tools such as ILOG CPLEX, GAMS, Gurobi Optimiser Excellent oral and written communication with good briefing and visualisation skills
Publications on optimisation in SCI‑indexed journals (desired)
