Position Summary:
Gerken Paving is looking for a strategic, experienced leader to serve as our Director of Operations – Asphalt Paving. This individual will oversee our projects and operations, lead our team of Project Managers and Coordinators, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to high-quality standards. The right candidate will have a strong background in construction operations, financial oversight, and team leadership, along with a solutions-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support Project Managers and the Paving Coordinator to ensure daily assignments are completed effectively
Ensure paving projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
Manage scheduling, resource allocation, and crew deployment for operational efficiency
Collaborate with leadership and accounting to ensure accurate job costing and timely cash flow
Hold teams accountable for meeting deadlines and resolving outstanding issues
Contribute to project planning
Monitor job site communication and implement best practices across operations
Foster continuous communication across departments and field personnel
Maintain open communication and issue escalation processes
Regular job site attendance required
What You Bring:
Proven experience in asphalt paving or heavy civil construction operations
Strong leadership and team development skills
Solid understanding of job costing and operational finance in the construction industry
Proficiency in construction management tools or systems (XBE or similar preferred)
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
